Development of Current Monitoring Applications for Prebaked Cells

Background

Reduction cell process is a complex reaction involving chemical, thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic influences. The phenomenon is difficult to understand due to these many influences and it is difficult to observe the reaction in the closed high-temperature cell.

The Project

To develop applications and diagnostics based on individual anode or cathode currents in a prebaked anode cell. To develop meaningful displays and database profiles that increase the understanding of pot dynamics.

Benefits

The system improved understanding of pot dynamics and the effect of various potroom operations on these dynamics. The system shows good correlation to expectations and is creating interesting ideas for new operating strategies.
