Universal Dynamics at the Chlorine Institute Trade ShowMarch 2000 Universal Dynamics had a booth at the Chlorine Institute Trade Show in Houston, Texas on March 19-23, 2000. The focus of the exhibit was on "Getting New Life Out of Old Rectifiers". The cost-effective upgrading of old analog controls to digital systems has been shown to improve operating reliability while increasing output to 105% of full-load rating. The paper "New Life for Old Thyristor Power Rectifiers Using Contemporary Digital Control" by Paul Buddingh of Universal Dynamics and Jack St. Mars of CXY Chemicals will be published in an upcoming issue of IEEE-IAS Transactions. For the first time, aluminum industry representatives were given a real time view inside electrolytic cells during operation. Upsets in the process were detected and controlled using Universal Dynamics' Electrode Monitoring and Control System (EMACS).
